Sandy Boville Invitational and Brotherhood Films Shoot

While I was still in Tahoe, I began to talk a little bit to my friend Sandy Boville about our plans for the rest of the season. I told him that I was planning on coming out to the East coast for the Dumont Cup. Sandy then invited me out to Ontario, and told me about his plans for his first inaugural competition at his home resort of Mount St. Louis Moonstone. After more talking we figured out all the logistics to make the trip happen, and in the next day or two I had purchased my ticket to Toronto.

The travel day over to Ontario involved a lot of the normal variations of travel; waking up too early, getting very little sleep, and feeling like a zombie for the day. Once I arrived in Toronto, I got picked up by Sandy and his awesome lady Danielle, before heading straight up to Sandy's cottage.

Once we arrived at Sandy’s cottage the Brotherhood film crew rolled in as well. Traveling from Quebec in the big Axis shop van was Laurent-Olivier Martin, Hugo Pelletier,  Dom Laporte, Mike Dandurand, and Xavier Mayriand. That night we all just hung out and got settled in before heading to sleep.

The next morning was Sandy’s event at Mount St.Louis Moonstone. This was the first east coast resort I have ever been to, and it was an amazing first experience. For such a small hill, they easily had one of the most fun parks I’ve ever ridden. With nice jumps, heaps of rails, quarter pipes, and transitions everywhere you looked.

A lot of people showed up for Sandy’s inaugural event, and it was an absolute blast. It started off with a late morning jump session and from their went to an afternoon rail session.

After that the riders selected the top 3 riders who they thought threw down the hardest all day. Very fortunately I was selected as one of the riders along with all around awesome skiers Jaeden Schneider-Clark, and Evan McEachran.

After the fun day at Mt. St Louis we all went to continue the festivities at a friend’s house in Ontario.

Enjoying the down day at the Cottage

The next day was a down day, since there was a snowboard competition happening at Mount St. Louis, and we were plenty sore from the day before. Instead we had a mellow day of sleeping in, enjoying a late breakfast, and hanging out at the Cottage for the day.

Midway through the day Dom Laporte and Mike Dandurand found a big PVC pipe and brought it over to the cottage for a fun little session. Took everyone awhile to get out there, but we eventually made it and had a blast riding the tube. After all these fun shenanigans, we went to get some sushi in Barrie with our friend Nikki before wrapping up the night back at the cottage.

The next morning was day one of the Brotherhood park shoot at Mount St. Louis. It started off in a lot of sun, and unfortunately a lot of wind as well. We started to get warmed up on the jump when clouds started to roll in. Sandy, Laurent, Hugo, and Ross were all able to get some good shots on the jump. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling it and didn’t do that great on the jump, so I instead opted for some fun nose butters off the jump landing.

After a quick lunch break it was decided that we would hit some rails for the rest of the day. Before we started the session, Sandy had the bright idea of mellowing out the quarter pipe wall so we could launch over it and do backflips. We started the afternoon session by hitting this up gap down rail.  After a few laps, I got all the tricks I wanted on it. Then Sandy and I started hitting the hip jump at the bottom, just trying to go as big as we could. After several tries we were able to clear it all the way. This was easily one of the most fun things to hit, and just float in the air for a few seconds while going huge on a hip.

Unfortunately the wind rolled in even more so I decided to go hit the quarter pipe with Sandy. On my first hit I decided to follow Sandy into the quarter pipe. Something we didn’t really think through, and I ended up almost clipping Sandy mid backflip, pretty scary stuff. After awhile Sandy and I thought of an idea for a cool photo, he would do a backflip, and I would do a handplant on the quarter pipe. After many attempts we finally got the shot, and couldn’t be more than stoked on the results.

The rest of the session was pretty mellow, except for Hugo, Dom, and Laurent getting super crazy on the rails. That night we had a very nice pasta dinner prepared by Dom, and just laughed our heads off at all the bails we took throughout the day.

The last day of the park shoot we crossed our fingers and hoped that the weather would be much better than the previous day. When we rolled up to the hill it was overcast, but as the day went on the clouds started to get thinner, and by noon we had a completely sunny day with a little bit of a tail wind.

This day ended up being extremely productive for everyone. Starting off the morning session on the gap jump, and getting a few shots before heading over to the big jump to get more shots.  The big jump session was going off with everyone throwing their best tricks, and having a huge smile on their faces.

We then took a lunch break to relax a little bit before going to hit the hip. So happy we had a little bit of a tail wind, and we could clear the hip all the way. Laurent threw two of the smoothest tricks I’ve seen on that big of a feature with a massive rodeo 5 and 180, and Sandy was just being himself and slaying with a massive cork 3 and rodeo 5 over the hip. After a few tries I finally got the trick I wanted on the hip and finished the day by back flipping to my face on the quarter pipe, and watching Dom and Hugo destroy the rails once again. Thankfully there was no major injuries, and just good vibes and smiles all around by everyone.

Such an amazing trip out to Ontario, and I can’t wait till the next time I get to shred with everyone. Might need to improve on my French a little bit, but I’ll get there eventually. Be sure to look for the shots from the shoot in the next Brotherhood Films movie coming out this fall. Thanks again to Sandy, Danielle, Rich Roth, Xavier, Mike, Mount St. Louis, and the rest of the peeps I met along the way.

Stay Classy,

-Noah
