Illumination Saddle

Following my trip to Mammoth, I went back to hang out in Government Camp, Oregon. During the last few years I've always come out here to ski, surf, and hangout with friends. For the past 3 years I've made a hike up to Illumination Rock on Mt.Hood with friends to ski, and simply enjoy the view.

Yesterday we decided that it was the right day to go, and made our way up early afternoon via the chairlift to the top of Palmer, cause I'm way too lazy to hike up from the parking lot. From there we made it up to the good traverse spot in such good time, that me and a friend decided to continue another hour up to Crater Rock before descending to Illumination.

While we were waiting for the sunset we were hanging out and bumping some tunes, when two of of the buddies hiked up to get a couple lines. Wish I could of hiked up with them to past the time, but by this time the ankle was already feeling very sore. Nevertheless, it was entertaining to see the line they picked and the shots turned out pretty great!

Easily one of the more chilly experiences I've had up there, with wind howling the entire evening. While that was unfortunate, what it gave us back in return was one of the craziest cloud experiences I've ever seen. With so many clouds gathering and moving by, that it resembled a tide rushing past the mountain.

This was followed by the clouds rushing up the mountain, and engulfing us for a time. After they separated, what was left was an amazing sunset that keeps me coming back up year after year.

Already looking forward to the hike next year, hopefully next time I can join in on skiing some lines, or hitting a jump.
